The "Caregiver Small Appliance Repair Workshop" was successfully concluded on August 7, 2026. This meaningful community initiative was funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant - "Stepping Forward" Domestic Violence Prevention Project. It was hosted by Harmony House (HH), co-organized by Household Electronics Reborn (HER), and fully supported by Wah Fung Computer Services Limited (Wah Fung), which generously provided the eco-friendly workshop venue and comprehensive technical support.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from parents and caregivers. This workshop aimed to pass down professional technical expertise, raise environmental waste reduction awareness among community residents, and empower individuals to translate repair theories into sustainable, actionable solutions that drive positive community development.

💡 【Theoretical Foundation: Mastering Safety and Diagnostic Thinking】

The first half of the workshop commenced with a series of highly practical seminars delivered by professional teams. First, the expert team from HER presented an "Electrical Safety Lecture" ⚡, explaining daily household electricity safety codes and potential hazards in an accessible and engaging manner. Subsequently, the "Household Appliance Maintenance You Can Do" seminar 📖 offered strategic guidance on extending the lifespan of electronic products, alongside the logical framework required for troubleshooting and diagnosing faults.

🛠️ 【Master Demonstration: On-Site Breakdown of Plug Replacement Teaching】

Following the comprehensive theoretical briefing, the event transitioned to its highly anticipated practical demonstration 🔥. The Technical Director took the stage to deliver a hands-on walkthrough, passing down essential household electrical DIY skills to the caregivers and parents in attendance.

The educational segment focused on three core areas of technical knowledge:

• Household Electrical DIY Self-Help Skills 🔌: Addressing everyday issues such as damaged appliance plugs, loose contacts, or plug incompatibilities for appliances purchased from overseas online platforms (such as Taobao), and teaching the most practical replacement techniques.

• Fundamental Electrical Principles ⚡: Instructing participants on-site on how to correctly identify "Live (L), Neutral (N), and Earth (E/G)" wires, their respective color codes, and standard wiring regulations (where blue denotes Neutral, brown denotes Live, and green-and-yellow denotes Earth), thereby establishing a rigorous foundation for home safety.

• Household Safety Education ✍️: Emphasizing every critical nuance of secure wiring. The audience remained fully engaged, systematically absorbing key procedural steps to eliminate hidden electrical risks preemptively.

 

💪 【Practical Challenge: Hands-on Attempt at Replacing Plugs】

In the subsequent practical session, the parents and caregivers demonstrated exceptional technical execution and hands-on capabilities. Applying their newly acquired electrical knowledge and closely referencing the Director's blueprint, they meticulously executed every step—from precisely stripping the outer insulation and correctly identifying the three-color wire positions to securely fastening the final connections. Under the structured guidance of the technical mentors, all participants successfully mastered this highly practical household self-help skill.
